Where’d you go Bernadette By : Maria Semple

Published June 2, 2015 by Hollys~BookShelf

I came across this book in the clearance section in Books a million. I read the back as we all do and the first couple of pages just to see did it draw me in. It did. haha!

I love Bernadette she is hilarious and quick with the wit. Ok, so the main character is Bee. Bernadette daughter. Bee has done well in school and wants her mom and dad to take her on a trip to Antartica. However, Bernadette doesn’t like people, or crowded areas or being on a boat or most things haha! The closer it gets to the trip Bernadette starts acting a little strange. Then, She disappears! Heres where the mystery begins and unfolds quite well. I really enjoyed it.

I would recommend this as a good summer read : ) if you like a hint of sarcasm and a little mystery this would be the book for you. : )

Ivory bar soap

Published July 10, 2012 by Hollys~BookShelf

Thanks to influenster for sending me Ivory bar soap in my Mom Voxbox.

I have to say I was pleased to see that I liked it. Im not a big fan of bar soap.

So, I used to deep clean my makeup brushes first. Well, It did such a great job of leaving them smelling very clean and the brush heads soft. I decided to give it a try on myself. I have very naturally oily skin so, this worked amazing. It doesnt dry out my skin it just leaves it clean without leaving and iky residue. Needless to say I have since purchased quite a few more bars. Image

A vacation on the island of ex- Boyfriends By: Stacy bierlein

Synopsis:

In three days we have played, cried, ran, fought, laughed, danced, and built fires with them all–every man we’ve ever wanted. We’re exhausted.

Two friends plan a visit to Nantucket, but find themselves on a different island completely, where the men they have loved are lined up on the beach in chronological order. A grieving mother and daughter encounter naked strangers in unexpected places en route to the Dordogne River. A restless New York artist travels to Madrid to find a European lover, only to fall for another persnickety New Yorker. Such quirks of fate are the hallmark of Stacy Bierlein’ s debut story collection. From that mysterious island in the Atlantic to the crowded highways of Los Angeles; from the Charles Bridge in Prague, to the temples of Luxor and the most remote regions of the Myanmar peninsula, Bierlein’s characters are women of dazzling ironies and introspections, always in motion and trusting in love–even when it remains out of reach.

My thoughts:

I won this book through A LibraryThing giveaway and was really excited to check it out. I received it in the mail yesterday and finished it this afternoon.

This Book contains a collection of stories from different women about their encounters with their lovers, exs, one night stands.

I really enjoyed this book, I think the author did a great job. From the start it pulls you in and keeps you interested. The author does a very good job with description. The flow of The stories was great, I never lost my interest.I think this could be a book I would read a second time.

so, overall I would recommend this for a read.  I gave it a 4 out of 5 : )

Stand By me By: Neta Jackson

Synopsis:

Sometimes the person you most need is the one least like you.

Kathryn Davies is a bright young woman form a prominent Phoenix family. But after making a leap of faith at a Christian music fest, dropping out of med school, and moving to inner city Chicago, her family all but disowns her.

When Kat discovers SouledOut Community Church, she longs to become a part of the multicultural church family. But her tendency to immediately say whatever she’s thinking steps on the toes of nearly everyone she meets-especially Avis Douglass.

Avis has a strong faith, is the principal of one of Chicago’s highest performing elementary schools, and is a founding member of SouledOut. But the country’s economic downturn has thrown both her and her husband’s jobs in question. And Avis hasn’t heard from her youngest daughter in months-an estrangement that gnaws at her every day. Where is God in this?

Kat’s flamboyant zeal for living a “radical” Christian life is a stark contrast to Avis’s more reserved faith. But in God’s timing, the two women discover they need each other in ways neither of them expected.

My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this book. The pace was nice, I really liked the characters. I enjoyed the story. Definite recommend. I would give this book a 4/5.
